Define the Word Hive Rules

  1. Choose Easy or Medium before you start the round.
  2. Read the target word on the card.
  3. Use the speaker button if you want to hear the word out loud.
  4. Compare the four definition choices.
  5. Pick the one definition that matches the word best.
  6. See the correct answer and explanation right away before moving on.

What makes an answer correct

Each question has one best definition for the word at that difficulty level. The right answer should match the word directly, not just sound related or loosely connected.

That keeps the game fair, teachable, and useful for quick vocabulary practice.

How voice settings work

Define the Word Hive includes optional read-aloud for each target word. You can open Voice Settings before or during a round, preview browser voices, and keep the one you prefer for replay.

Read-aloud is optional, so the round stays fully playable by reading the word yourself.

How scoring works

What you see at the end of a round

When a round ends, Define the Word Hive shows your total correct answers, the difficulty you played, and the words you missed with the correct definitions and explanations.

This keeps the summary useful without turning it into a long worksheet review.
