Look left, right, up, down, and along all four diagonals. Because words may also appear backward, each line can hide more than your first scan suggests.
The staggered honeycomb changes the visual rhythm, but the rule stays simple: choose a starting letter and keep the entire trace straight.

Start with the longest word
A distinctive eight- or nine-letter target is often easier to confirm than several short possibilities.
Find an unusual first letter
Letters such as V, K, or Y give you fewer starting points to inspect.
Read backward
When a promising ending appears, trace toward the beginning instead of abandoning the line.
Recheck diagonals
The honeycomb offsets rows, so diagonal paths often appear after horizontal and vertical words are gone.
