This summary is a guide. The full policy below contains the details.

1. Who We Are

WordHive.app is a browser-based learning dictionary and word-game service at wordhive.app. Innovative Edge Consulting operates it from Ontario, Canada. Send privacy questions through the WordHive.app contact form.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide

  • Account and authentication: email address, authentication records, email-confirmation status, legal-acceptance versions and timestamps, and security-related account information. Passwords are processed by our authentication provider and are not stored by us in readable form.
  • Profile: unique display name, selected avatar, preferences, and leaderboard-visibility choice.
  • Communications: your name, email address, relevant page, and message when you use the contact form. We also receive information you choose to include in that message.
  • Custom or shared activities: words, labels, prompts, sentences, configurations, and other content you choose to enter, save, or share. Do not enter student records, health information, passwords, or other sensitive information.

Information created through use

  • Game and learning results, completion records, scores, streaks, hints, and puzzle dates needed for progress or rewards
  • Honey earned and spent, ledger entries, badges, avatar entitlements, virtual purchases, lifetime Honey, and rank
  • Referral code, attribution, qualifying referral activity, and reward status
  • Session, security, diagnostic, device, browser, IP address, approximate location, page, referral-source, and interaction data generated by the service and providers

Information kept in your browser

Guest and device data may include progress, guesses, settings, theme, sound, selected voice, streak or puzzle state, referral attribution, and temporarily pending rewards. Some of this information remains only in your browser and is not sent to us unless a feature uses it.

We do not currently collect payment-card information because Honey and virtual features are not sold for money through WordHive.app.

3. How We Use Information

We use information only for purposes connected with operating and improving WordHive.app, including to:

  • Create, authenticate, secure, recover, support, and delete accounts
  • Save profiles and eligible progress; award and spend Honey; issue badges; unlock avatars; calculate streaks and ranks
  • Operate referrals, notifications, challenges, prevent abuse, enforce limits, and maintain accurate records
  • Provide optional leaderboards and public profiles according to your visibility choice
  • Send account confirmation, password recovery, security, and requested transactional messages
  • Respond to contact requests, rights requests, safety reports, and legal complaints
  • Measure use, diagnose problems, protect the service, enforce our Terms, and improve content
  • Display, measure, limit, and personalize or contextualize ads as permitted by law and your consent choices
  • Meet legal, regulatory, accounting, security, and dispute obligations

Depending on location and the activity, processing may rely on consent, performance of our agreement with you, legitimate interests in operating and securing the service, or legal obligations. We do not use personal information for unrelated purposes without an appropriate legal basis and notice.

4. Optional Public Profiles and Leaderboards

Leaderboard participation is off unless you enable it. When enabled, visitors may see your display name, avatar, rank, lifetime Honey, and collected badges. They do not see your email, spendable Honey balance, password, or private settings.

You can turn visibility off. This removes information from current WordHive.app public results, although search engines, caches, screenshots, or copies may persist outside our control. Choose a display name that does not reveal personal information.

5. Cookies, Browser Storage, and Guest Data

WordHive.app uses browser storage and similar technologies for essential functionality, such as remembering settings, preserving guest game state, maintaining account sessions, recording referral attribution, and temporarily holding pending rewards. Google or other providers may use cookies or similar technologies for analytics, advertising, measurement, security, and fraud prevention.

Where consent is required, non-essential technologies should be controlled by the consent experience before they are used. You can clear site data or block cookies through your browser, although this may remove local progress or prevent some features from working. Account-backed records are not removed merely by clearing browser storage.

Hive Five challenges

Account challenges use your player profile, opt-in challenge preference, invitations, puzzle attempts, and results. Only the two participants can access their match. Your opponent sees your display name, guess count, and completion result, but not your guess words. Account match progress can be resumed on another signed-in device. Pending requests expire after seven days, and accepted rounds allow seven days to finish. Match history remains associated with the participants’ accounts; deleting either account removes the shared match.

Hive Five stores solo progress and a random private guest key in your browser. For friend challenges, we store a digest of that key, puzzle and guess records, results, and invitation identifiers. We use a short-lived keyed digest of the requester’s network address to limit excessive requests; the challenge rate table does not store the raw address. Links permit access to the invited puzzle and target score. Other recipients cannot see your individual result. Challenge attempts expire after seven days. Records older than 30 days are removed during routine challenge creation. Clearing browser storage can remove your access to saved challenges.

6. Pronunciation Coach Microphone Recordings

If you use Word Coach recording, your browser asks for microphone permission. The recording is held temporarily in your browser so you can listen. WordHive.app does not upload or store the audio on its servers. Closing or refreshing the page releases it. Your browser or operating system controls permission.

We may record a non-audio event indicating that the feature was started or completed for analytics and eligible Honey rewards. We do not treat the temporary recording as a voiceprint or use it for biometric identification.

7. Analytics and Advertising

We use Google Analytics 4 to measure page views, approximate location, device and browser characteristics, referral source, and interactions such as game starts, hints, searches, shares, and completion. We use this to understand use, diagnose problems, and improve WordHive.app.

We use Google AdSense for advertising. Google and, where enabled, other ad vendors may place or read cookies, use web beacons, IP addresses, or similar identifiers, and collect information about visits to WordHive.app and other sites. This can serve and measure contextual or personalized ads, limit repeated ads, detect fraud, and report performance.

Where required, consent-management tools set advertising and analytics consent signals to denied until you make a choice. You can withdraw or change choices through the consent controls presented on the site where available. Some essential security, session, or fraud-prevention processing may still occur because it is needed to operate the service. Google also provides My Ad Center and information about how Google uses information from partner sites or apps.

We do not sell your account email address or profile information for money. We do not use WordHive account or classroom information to build advertising profiles for children.

8. Service Providers

We disclose information to providers that process it for us or provide integrated services:

  • Supabase: authentication, database, API, and server-side functions
  • Resend: transactional account email delivery
  • Google: Analytics and AdSense advertising, measurement, security, and related technologies
  • Hosting, DNS, security, and infrastructure providers: delivery, availability, abuse prevention, and network security

These providers may receive only the identifiers, IP addresses, device information, account data, content, or activity needed for their role. They may process information in countries outside Canada and may have their own privacy policies. We do not sell your account email or profile information for money.

We may preserve or disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law or legal process; protect users, the public, our rights, or security; investigate fraud or Terms violations; or respond to an emergency. If WordHive.app or its assets are reorganized, financed, sold, or transferred, information may be reviewed or transferred with appropriate safeguards.

10. Retention and Security

We keep information only as long as reasonably needed for the purpose collected, to provide the service, handle disputes, prevent abuse, meet legal obligations, or maintain secure backups. Account, profile, progress, reward, referral, notification, and acceptance records are generally retained while an account is active. After deletion, limited security, fraud-prevention, legal, dispute, and backup records may remain for the period reasonably needed for those purposes. Contact messages are retained as needed to respond, protect the service, and maintain business or legal records. Analytics and advertising providers apply their own retention settings.

Guest browser data remains until it expires, is replaced, or is cleared; pending word-page rewards are designed to expire after seven days. We use safeguards appropriate to the information, including authenticated access, database controls, access restrictions, rate limits, and secure transport where supported. No system is completely secure. If a breach creates a reporting obligation, we will provide notices required by applicable law.

11. Children’s Privacy

WordHive.app is designed to be family-friendly, but it is not directed at children under 13 for account creation. Accounts are limited to people who confirm they are at least 13. Younger children may encounter guest games or word pages, but they should use them only with a parent, guardian, teacher, or other responsible adult’s supervision and should not be asked to provide personal information. We do not knowingly request personal information from a child under 13 for an account or knowingly use such information for advertising.

Parents and guardians should supervise younger players, particularly before public leaderboard participation or link sharing. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information through WordHive, contact us so we can review the situation and take appropriate action, including deletion where required.

12. Your Choices and Requests

  • Account: review and change your display name, avatar, password, and leaderboard setting.
  • Deletion: delete your account in account settings, subject to limited lawful retention described above.
  • Browser data: clear WordHive.app cookies and site storage through your browser.
  • Microphone: deny or revoke permission through browser or device settings.
  • Advertising: use consent choices presented where available and Google My Ad Center.
  • Privacy request: ask for access to, correction of, or information about personal information we hold, or withdraw consent where applicable, through the WordHive.app contact form.

We may verify identity before an account request and may ask for enough detail to locate the relevant records. We will respond within the time required by applicable law, subject to lawful exceptions. If you are not satisfied, you may contact your privacy regulator, including the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

13. International Processing

WordHive.app and providers may process or store information in Canada, the United States, or other countries. Information outside your province or country may be subject to those locations’ laws and lawful access processes. Before making a transfer where applicable law requires additional safeguards, we will use an appropriate contractual, legal, or organizational safeguard. You may contact us for more information about the providers involved in a particular request.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as WordHive.app, its providers, and its obligations evolve. We will post the revised policy and change the date and version recorded in the account flow. If a change materially affects how we use personal information, we will provide additional notice and obtain any consent required by law before applying the new use.

15. Contact

Send privacy questions, requests, or complaints to Innovative Edge Consulting through the WordHive.app contact form.
